On April 28, 2019, Helen Griffin turned 102 at Life Care Center of Aurora, Colorado.
The facility hosted a birthday bash on April 26, with ice cream cake and a performance by a barbershop quartet. She also wore a special lace blouse that a nurse had bought for her for the occasion.
“Helen’s birthday party was great!” said Michelle Williams, recreation director. “She was awake and alert, and her family was here to celebrate with her. Our barbershop quartet dedicated several songs to Helen, and she smiled.”
Williams asked Griffin about her secret to longevity.
“Helen is very quiet and soft-spoken, but she said it is important to ‘confess your sins and love the Lord,’” said Williams.
Griffin attended Colorado Women’s College. After marrying Richard Griffin, she worked as a bookkeeper for her husband’s business, Dick’s Electric, for about 30 years. She also raised their four children, three daughters and a son. She has eight grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Author’s note: Sadly, Griffin passed away a few days after her birthday. Associates are grateful she was able to celebrate her birthday with all her family members present.
